Working with businesses to build a stronger economy

This event is designed for businesses and organisations to come along and find out more about the programmes and initiatives that the North East LEP delivers and how they can get involved. The North East LEP worked with businesses to write the North East Strategic Economic Plan, we have now developed a range of programmes and initiatives that they can get involved with to help us boost economic wealth in the North East.
You’ll meet the team and have the chance to learn more about the initiatives we’ve designed to help grow the economy.
Some of the areas we’ll be discussing include:
Funding
The North East LEP manages over £500 million of public funding and plays an influencing role in the allocation of regional European funding to make sure it is allocated to projects that will contribute to the delivery of the Strategic Economic Plan.
Our Executive Director, Helen Golightly, will talk in more detail about this funding landscape.
Innovation
We are a key strategic partner of the Innovation SuperNetwork and the North East LEP supports major innovation events like VentureFest North East. We’ll share our innovation priorities as set out in the Strategic Economic Plan and highlight opportunities for you and your clients to take part in innovation events and initiatives across the North East. Simon Green is the Director of the SuperNetwork and will talk you through its importance in the North East innovation ecosystem.
The North East Growth Hub
The North East Growth Hub exists to stimulate demand for and to broker to business growth and improvement services, Growth Hub Online consistently delivered over 800 referrals for business support and finance providers every month and Scaleup North East works with some of the North East’s fastest growing businesses to intelligently connect them with the specialist consultants and providers who can support the implementation of their action plan. Growth Hub Mentoring connects business owners with mentors who have all successfully scaled their own business. So regardless of wether you’re a business support or finance provider, consultant or business owner there are a whole range of ways in which you can get involved.
Colin Bell, our Business Growth Director, will talk in more detail about the Growth Hub and how you can use its services to help grow your business.
Skills
Our work to date has focused heavily on careers advice in school, nationally pioneering a reformed system, where business sits at the centre to inform pupils’ career choices. This work with the Gatsby Foundation is now positioned centrally in the recently published Government’s Careers Strategy. Businesses and industry experts play a key role in this agenda through our Enterprise Adviser initiative.
Michelle Rainbow will explain all about the Gatsby pilot we have lead on and the fundamental role business leaders can play in the process.
