The regional festival of languages is back !

Bigger and even better than last year’s great success, this year’s festival will span the whole month of March.

We would like all schools to get on board and celebrate language learning during the month of March. Hold your own language event and share news of it with us or dip into the rich programme of activities.

We know that timetabling events is often tricky for schools. We have worked with partners to create a bank of specially recorded workshops, presentation and sessions which you can stream at any point throughout the festival month. Enjoy a French puppet show, dance Tinku with Spanish instruction, enjoy films from the Spanish Embassy or learn words in Mandarin with Lingotots.

In addition to the FREE online resources, we are also running three big projects :

The big sing – learn and perform our festival song in one of the festival languages

Take part in Mother Tongue, Other Tongue, a poetry celebration of languages spoken and learned in our region

Languages open doors – a poster competition for pupils in KS2 – KS5

There is also a bank of stories by those from our region who use languages in the workplace.

The festival website went live on 1 February and new events and joining instructions will be added constantly.
